My first novel is almost done.
I need the rest of the month to complete revisions on Dragonwind: The Lost Land. In my enthusiasm, I decided to post a short excerpt from every chapter once a day for the next few weeks. It’s like my version of a countdown.
His eyes moved north and about a hundred yards ahead. That’s when he saw them.
Three still shadows, further out in the field. The fear felt fresh inside his chest. His knees buckled slightly as he hobbled closer. By the time he reached the three blackened corpses positioned neatly in a row, the strength left his legs and he collapsed. They were unrecognizable except for a ring on the finger of the largest of the three bodies. A gold ring adorned with seven concentric circles and an eight-pointed star in the center.
The ring of his father.
He sprawled out on the ground beside the charred remains of his family as his sobs filled the early evening air.
